Students are keen to learn all techniques of hairdressing and how to care for their new Akito scissors with the Akito scissorology course, keeping their scissors working in their optimum condition.
On 23rd March 2017, John and Bronte from Team Akito will be heading to Havana in Cuba to take part in the Hairdressers Humanitarian trip.
The aim of the trip is to offer free education to students of the Artecorte school, which was started by the inspirational Papito (The Daddy of hairdressing in Havana).
Papito’s story is amazing, he turned his house into a barbers shop and school, to teach the youngsters of the area hairdressing for free. His dream was to change the area he lived in, from what was a run down street in Havana, into what it has become now:
A progressive community and a tourist attraction known as Barber Alley.
Papito’s achievements and vision inspired a meeting with President Obama on his visit to Cuba.

This year there has been an ongoing appeal to collect old used hairdressing scissors, to be attached to a scissor shaped monument that has been erected in Barber Alley, as a symbol of unity amongst hairdressers from around the world.
Due to the restrictions that have been in place for many years, there is a lack of many basic items. The main request for this trip has been for educational material, because of restricted internet there is very limited knowledge of what is happening in the rest of the world.
Our appeal to you is for videos or images of your work that could be loaded on a USB stick and sent to us, to arrive before the 22nd March.
